“The deal the moon struck with the sun”

(made of haikus)

the deal the moon struck
with the sun occurs to me
on a boat at night

nothing borrowed looks
quite like this. This must be how
a promise ages

with grace. We seem like
intruders, hushed in the dark
floating on diamonds

seeking candlelight
a surprise. In our hands, moons
dance in plastic cups.
